Sign up now for this day of exciting hands on instruction from two perspectives. In the morning with Cindy you’ll explore creating bridal bouquets with unusual materials such as the exciting flair of tropicals and succulents.  Cindy will share tips & techniques on how to use these products effectively.
In the afternoon with Molly you’ll design a bridal bouquet for the modern bride, which can be intimidating.  Trends change quickly. Molly will show new, exciting styles and color palettes which are beginning to catch bride’s eyes. With weddings getting smaller, the bridal bouquet is more important than ever, as the personalized focal point of the event. Be ready to invigorate your bouquet game, and experiment with new forms, tips and textures in this course.  You’ll learn about modern styles, and the quick and easy ways to achieve them.

Includes all flowers and supplies. Lunch on your own.  The limited course enrollment of 6 will ensure that each student receives personal attention.

Steps To Certification

Wednesday, June 9, 2021 from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Cindy guides those who plan on becoming a Certified Florist. Tips on how to prepare for both the written and design portions of the test. Students will spend part of the day reviewing the written test and then work in the design room learning what is needed to pass the exam. Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of what it takes to pass the prestigious CF exam.

Class will run from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm with a break for lunch. Lunch is on your own. Bring your own tools; ( pruners, knife, wire cutters, and scissors).

Introduction to Floral Design

Instructor: Cindy Ching, AIFD, CF
Member $1,000; Non-Member $1,250 (Includes all flowers/supplies, fees are non-refundable)
Next Class Date: August 2 -6 (Monday – Friday)  Time: 9am – 5pm

This comprehensive course will introduce beginning students to the exciting field of floral design. Principles and elements of design, proper mechanics of construction, care and handling of fresh materials and use of color are the focal points. For
those desiring to become a Certified Florist, this class is a great first step.

Time will be divided between lecture and hands-on design. All materials are included in the course fee and students will have a completed design to take home each day. Topics include: vase arrangements, symmetrical triangles, asymmetrical triangles, and horizontal centerpieces, round designs, hand-tied bouquets, corsages, and boutonnieres.

The limited course enrollment of6will ensure that each student receives personal attention.

The class will meet from9:00am to 5:00pmeach day with a 45-minute break for lunch on your own.There is 36hours of classroom instruction time. Since this is a personal enrichment course there will be no exams.

You must bring your own tools (pruner, scissor, and wire cutter). A floral knife will be provided.

“Smart” Designing with Permanent Botanicals

Instructors: Alice Waterous AIFD, CF, CFD, PFCI

Class Date: Tuesday, August 17, 2021 Time: 9:00am – 4:30pm 

Whether you have floral design experience or not, this class will guide you in working with Permanent Botanical materials. Alice has a wide range of experience working with “Faux Florals” and will demonstrate numerous design styles, techniques and tips aimed at making your work more realistic looking and easier to put together. First, she will demonstrate various types of designs showing you how to choose great components & share details pertaining to effective mechanics. Then, each student will receive materials to create three projects using the skills taught. You will design a wreath, a table design & a desk sized arrangement to take home.

Includes all flowers and supplies. Lunch on your own.  The limited course enrollment of 6 will ensure that each student receives personal attention.

Intermediate Floral Design (5-day course)

Instructor: Cindy Ching, AIFD, CF
Member $1,250; Non-Member $1,500 (Includes all flowers/supplies, fees are non-refundable)
Next Class Date: August 23 – 27 Time: 9am-5pm

This course builds upon the foundation of the basic design course. The focus will be on the information presented in the Certified Florist (CF) Manual with the goal of preparing students to take the CF examination. (Students who do not wish to take the CF exam will still be welcome.)

The CF manual is the text for this course. You may purchase this manual at www.michiganfloral.org or call 517-575-0110. This manual is recommended but not required. All other materials will be included in the registration fee.

Time will be divided between lecture and hands on design. A sample test will be given on each topic. Lecture topics include: care and handling of flowers and plants, product identification, customer relations, sales, delivery, marketing, accounting, display, and intermediate floral design. Design topics include: vase arrangements, bridal bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres and sympathy. Designs will incorporate the contemporary techniques of grouping, layering, basing, framing, and many more. Each day you will take home your designs.

There are 36 hours of classroom instruction. Since this is a personal enrichment course there will be no exams. Includes all flowers and supplies. Lunch on your own. The limited course enrollment of 6 will ensure that each student receives personal attention.
