The CF manual is the text for this course. You may purchase this manual at www.greatlakesfloralassociation.org (Certified Florist tab in drop down under the Education tab) or call (517) 575-0110. Derek is a captivating speaker who specializes in “today’s consumer” connecting and engaging them through different types of media including demonstrations\, subscription services and hands-on workshops with both plants and flowers. In addition to being an educator\, Derek is considered a “National Floral Design Champion” spending many years polishing the practice of live floral design competition. Since then\, he as continued to study the trade through institutes such as Michigan State University\, the Great Lakes Floral Association (GLFA)\, and the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD). In 2008 he launched his own business\, Floral Underground. Derek is a captivating speaker who specializes in “today’s consumer” connecting and engaging them through different types of media including demonstrations\, subscription services and hands-on workshops with both plants and flowers. In addition to being an educator\, Derek is considered a “National Floral Design Champion” spending many years polishing the practice of live floral design competition. The focus will be on theinformation presented in the Certified Florist (CF) Manual with the goal of preparing students to take the CF examination. \n\n\n\nStudents who do not wish to take the CF exam are still welcome. The CF manual is the text for this course. You may purchase this manual at www.greatlakesfloralassociation.org (Certified Florist tab in drop down under the Education tab) or call (517) 575-0110. The manual is recommended but not required. Allother materials will be included in the registration fee. \n\n\n\nEach day you will take home your designs. There are 36 hours of classroom instruction. Since this is a personal enrichment course there will be no exams. Includes all flowers and supplies. Lunch is on your own each day. Principles and elements of design\, proper mechanics of construction\, care and handling of fresh materials and use of color are the focal points. For those desiring to become a Certified Florist\, this class is a great first step.  \n\n\n\nTime will be divided between lecture and hands-on design. All materials are included in the course fee and students will have a completed design to take home each day. Topics include: vase arrangements\, symmetrical triangles\, asymmetrical triangles\, and horizontal centerpieces\, round designs\, hand-tied bouquets\, corsages\, and boutonnieres.  \n\n\n\nThe limited course enrollment of 6 will ensure that each student receives personal attention. The class will meet from 9:00am to 5:00pm each day with a 45-minute break for lunch on your own.  There is 36 hours of classroom instruction time.
